8th May 1916

"Rifle inspection and bathing parade. There was hostile aeroplanes very close on Port Said; they dropped a few bombs on the Salt Works but there was no damage was done by them. A bit of a scrape out in the desert with the enemy. Light Horse were in the scrape. It was round about a small village called Dwarweda(?). The same spot where the Warwickshire Yeomanry got cut up on the 24th April.

Between 7 and 8 o'clock in the evening there was two cargo boats and one liner making for Port Said."
