These are the diary entries of Private Peter Jack (1044) of the Lanarkshire Yeomanry, B Squadron. A native of Blackridge. It follows his experiences during the First World War campaign on the Gallipoli Peninsula and later in Egypt, as part of the Mediterranean Expeditionary Force.

12th May 1916
"Rifle inspection and fatigue in the morning. Aeroplanes scouting out in the desert but nothing doing. Swimming competition. Arrival of more new troops, Australians and West Kent Yeomanry. Got inoculated against Small Pox and Typhoid Fever."
